Production Designer

The Production Designer at Fourbital Factory plays a critical role in translating creative vision into tangible knit beanie designs, working in close collaboration with the Surface Design Manager. This position involves designing with manufacturing capabilities in mind, staying current with industry trends, and developing prototypes to ensure production quality. Key responsibilities include creating detailed tech packs, maintaining organized digital file systems, and supporting the evolution of tech pack structures for clear and consistent communication. The role requires a balance of creativity, technical proficiency, and organizational excellence to uphold the brand’s values of innovation and sustainable apparel manufacturing.

1) Technical Design & File Preparation
Translate design concepts, mockups, and tech packs into production-ready files for jacquard and rib knit machines under the direction of the Surface Design Manager.
Ensure all designs comply with machine constraints, repeat parameters, and gauge specifications.
Stay up to date with knitting techniques, technologies, and industry innovations; bring forward new ideas based on current trends and technical capabilities.
2) Prototyping & Sample Development
Generate prototypes to refine fit, tension, and design clarity.
Review first-round samples and revise designs to improve aesthetics and manufacturability.
Oversee machine operation during prototyping to detect yarn/thread breaks, defects, or quality concerns; document machine settings and work completed.
Recommend production process improvements based on prototyping observations.
Troubleshoot issues such as misknits, tension inconsistencies, or misalignments, and provide updated files or machine settings as needed.
Review and approve top-of-run knit samples to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards.
Collaborate with the Industrial Maintenance Technician to assess material performance after prototyping with new materials.
Adhere to all operational safety standards, including VOSHA compliance and machine tracking procedures.
3) Tech Pack Creation & Production Handoff
Build and maintain detailed tech packs, including files, data sheets, and order of operations.
Maintain yarn libraries, color swatches, and digital palettes for all styles.
Prepare and deliver final production files and supporting documentation to operators and production leads.
Keep organized records of design versions, approvals, and notes for each order.
Contribute to workflow optimization and recommend improvements to quality control processes.
Partner with the Surface Design Manager to refine and evolve the Fourbital Factory tech pack template to ensure long-term consistency and reliability in communication.
4) Support and Maintain Internal Organization and Systems
Maintain and organize project digital files using standardized naming conventions.
Ensure that all saved files are complete, properly structured, and aligned with timeline milestones.

This position requires a minimum of a 2-year technical degree in technical design, digital production, or a related field (graphic, product, or apparel design), plus 3+ years of experience collaborating with creative teams in a similar role.

Work is performed in both office and production floor settings. The role requires the physical and cognitive dexterity to operate digital design tools, production machinery, and hand tools. Physical demands include lifting, twisting, bending, standing or sitting for extended periods, and walking across the production floor. Use of safety equipment and adherence to VOSHA or manufacturer guidelines is required at all times.

Beanie Production Operator

The Beanie Production Operator is a reliable, detail-oriented team member who plays a key role in our manufacturing process. They will be responsible for ensuring that our beanies are produced efficiently, meet the highest quality standards, and are completed on time. They will work closely with the production team and assist in various stages of the process, from machine operation to finishing and packaging. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, startup environment and is eager to contribute to the success of a growing company.

Machine Operation & Maintenance:
Operate and monitor sewing, knitting, and finishing machines to ensure smooth and efficient production of beanies.
Prepare, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial machinery and tools to ensure optimal operation.
Perform routine maintenance on machines, reporting any issues and requesting repairs or services as needed.
Beanie Production & Assembly:
Read and interpret production documents, tech packs, and design instructions to ensure each beanie is produced to the required specifications.
Assist in assembling and finishing beanies, including adding labels, tags, and other finishing touches.
Ensure that all materials and auxiliary supplies are prepared before starting production.
Inspect finished beanies for defects, ensuring they meet our quality standards and correcting any issues that arise.
Quality Control & Production Tracking:
Conduct regular inspections of finished products to ensure they meet quality standards for construction, design, and stitching.
Adjust sewing techniques and machine settings to resolve any quality issues and maintain high standards.
Keep accurate records of production numbers, materials used, and any downtime. Report issues or inconsistencies to supervisors.
Work efficiently to meet daily production goals while maintaining consistency and quality.
Safety & Collaboration:
Follow all safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
Collaborate closely with other production team members to ensure deadlines are met and any issues are communicated and resolved efficiently.

High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment is a plus, but not required.

Work is usually performed on the production floor with frequent ambulation among workstations. Long periods of stationary work while operating machines. Hand dexterity and coordination sufficient to operate machinery for detailed work. Ability to stand for long periods and lift moderate weights (up to 30 lbs).
