Surface Designer

  • The Surface Designer is responsible for creating original, on-brand graphics and visual assets that support both 4T2D’s internal product collections and custom client beanie projects. This role focuses on concept development, trend research, and artwork creation across beanies, apparel prints, and accessories. Working closely with the Creative Director, Production Manager, and Sales team, the Surface Designer brings ideas to life through digital mockups, mood boards, and graphic assets that align with brand aesthetics and client goals. In addition to design work, this role maintains strong organizational systems, ensuring all creative files are properly archived, documented, and ready for future use. 

  • 1)    Concept Development

    • Participates in design kickoff meetings to understand seasonal direction, brand goals, client vision, and technical considerations.

    • Conducts research on color, pattern, surface treatments, and graphic trends relevant to both the 4T2D customer and external client base.

    • Develops creative concepts, mood boards, and visual references that inform both internal seasonal collections and client-specific projects.

    • Contributes original design ideas for the annual beanie collection and apparel print graphics intended for custom fabric yardage. 

    2)    Asset Creation

    • Translates approved concepts into original graphic designs for both the 4T2D brand and external client projects. 

    • Creates artwork that is intentional, aesthetically aligned, and adaptable for various applications (beanies, apparel prints, and accessories). 

    • Produces digital mockups, presentation decks, and visual assets to clearly communicate design direction. 

    • Where appropriate, supports outreach or collaboration with external artists and designers to enhance creative storytelling. 

    3)     Review & Handoff

    • Works closely with the Creative Director, Production Manager, and Sales team to ensure designs align with brand identity, client expectations, and project timelines. 

    • Participates in design reviews and feedback sessions, adjusting graphics as needed. 

    • Communicates design intent clearly to Production Designer, ensuring smooth transitions from concept to production-ready preparation. 

    • Delivers clean, well-organized artwork files, following company conventions and project timelines. 

    4)    File Organization & System Support

    • Maintains a well-organized digital asset library, including working files, final artwork, and project-specific folders.

    • Adheres to internal file naming conventions, version control, and asset handoff protocols. 

    • Utilizes company templates, forms, and design documentation tools to ensure efficient communication and archiving. 

    • Assists in updating visual reference decks, trend boards, and template mockups for internal and external use. 

    • Assists with maintaining internal templates, mockups, and forms that support cross-team communication. 

    • Catalogs design work for reference in future projects, trend tracking, and archival purposes. 

    5)    Other duties as assigned

    • Supports special creative projects, one-off custom requests, and team-wide initiatives, particularly during product launch or peak seasons.

    • Communicates technical requirements to both creative and production teams with clarity and precision. 

    • Navigates seamlessly between creative vision and technical execution, ensuring each phase is well-defined.

    Organization

  • This position requires a minimum of a 2-year technical degree in technical design, digital production, or a related field (graphic, product, or apparel design), plus 3+ years of experience collaborating with creative teams in a similar role. 

  • Work is performed in both office and production floor settings. The role requires the physical and cognitive dexterity to operate digital design tools, production machinery, and hand tools. Physical demands include lifting, twisting, bending, standing or sitting for extended periods, and walking across the production floor. Use of safety equipment and adherence to VOSHA or manufacturer guidelines is required at all times. 

    • Strong ability to learn and operate complex digital production equipment.

    • Proficiency in graphic design software, including Adobe Creative Suite.

    • Highly detail-oriented and committed to delivering complete, accurate work to production teams.

    • Skilled in organizing and sharing technical information in a systematic way. 

    • Capable of managing multiple priorities and maintaining composure under pressure. 

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to relay complex concepts clearly.

    • Comfortable working independently and in a collaborative environment.

    • Willingness and ability to master relevant creative, technical, and project management tools.

Beanie Production Operator

  • The Beanie Production Operator is a reliable, detail-oriented team member who plays a key role in our manufacturing process. They will be responsible for ensuring that our beanies are produced efficiently, meet the highest quality standards, and are completed on time. They will work closely with the production team and assist in various stages of the process, from machine operation to finishing and packaging. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, startup environment and is eager to contribute to the success of a growing company. 

    1. Machine Operation & Maintenance: 

      • Operate and monitor sewing, knitting, and finishing machines to ensure smooth and efficient production of beanies.

      • Prepare, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial machinery and tools to ensure optimal operation. 

      • Perform routine maintenance on machines, reporting any issues and requesting repairs or services as needed. 

    2. Beanie Production & Assembly: 

      • Read and interpret production documents, tech packs, and design instructions to ensure each beanie is produced to the required specifications. 

      • Assist in assembling and finishing beanies, including adding labels, tags, and other finishing touches. 

      • Ensure that all materials and auxiliary supplies are prepared before starting production. 

      • Inspect finished beanies for defects, ensuring they meet our quality standards and correcting any issues that arise. 

    3. Quality Control & Production Tracking:

      • Conduct regular inspections of finished products to ensure they meet quality standards for construction, design, and stitching.

      • Adjust sewing techniques and machine settings to resolve any quality issues and maintain high standards. 

      • Keep accurate records of production numbers, materials used, and any downtime. Report issues or inconsistencies to supervisors. 

      • Work efficiently to meet daily production goals while maintaining consistency and quality. 

    4. Safety & Collaboration:

      • Follow all safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.

      • Collaborate closely with other production team members to ensure deadlines are met and any issues are communicated and resolved efficiently. 

      • Actively participate in team meetings to provide feedback and assist with process improvements. 

    5. Troubleshooting: 

      • Conduct regular reviews of machine functionality and make necessary adjustments to maintain production flow. 

      • Alert supervisors to any performance issues, discussing solutions based on technical skills and machine experience.

  • This position requires a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, illustration, textile design, surface design, or a related creative field. 2-4 years of experience working collaboratively with a creative team preferably in apparel, accessories, or consumer products. Experience creating assets for both product and presentation (e.g., mockups, decks, brand guides, mood boards). Strong portfolio of original design work demonstrating creative range across patterns, prints, and branding graphics. 

  • Work is usually performed in a standard office environment. Must have physical dexterity necessary to operate standard office equipment and computers. Position requires limited movement in one location for long periods (whether sitting or standing) generally oriented around a desk. 

    • Practical experience with software specific to graphic design (Adobe Illustrator). 

    • Ability to create clear and realistic mockups to help visualize graphics on physical products (e.g., beanies, apparel).

    • Knowledge and experience applying graphic design to a variety of surfaces.

    • Comfortable iterating based on feedback, exploring alternatives, and finding creative solutions within technical constraints. 

    • Capable of handling multiple design projects with overlapping timelines and deliverables, without sacrificing quality. 

    • Strong attention to process-oriented detail; organized sharing and management of technical information. 

  • $45,000-$47,000/yr
